The Blacksmith Diorama
Recently, I have been working on a 1:6 scale blacksmith diorama.
The reason? I’m looking to improve my skills in diorama building and build up my knowledge, with the eventual goal of becoming a diorama artist and offering commissions to companies and the good old general public too!
What have I been up to?
As this is the first post on here, I’ll sum up what I’m currently working on — and, obviously, it’s the blacksmith diorama. It’s my biggest build to date.
So far, I’ve created an anvil from scratch — more on that tomorrow.
I’ve also been focusing on the basic construction of the diorama’s base. It’s a bit of a mess at the moment, with prototype items created from cardboard dotted around it.
This is mainly for scaling, so I can make sure I get the measurements correct.
Measure once, cut twice, right?
Hang on… wait!
Anyway, the diorama base is made from 6mm MDF. I measured and cut the piece using a jigsaw, then held everything together with wood glue, nails and hope and dreams.
Jokes.
For the window, I cut the hole using a Stanley knife and then cleaned it up with a chisel.
What's next?
Tomorrow, I’m starting a stand for the anvil.
And it’s going to be a tree stump stand.
I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
